A police pursuit Wednesday of a suspected stolen vehicle started in northeast Kansas City and ended in a southwest Independence neighborhood with the suspect vehicle flipped over on its roof in a front yard.
According to Kansas City police, shortly before noon Wednesday officers noticed a stolen auto in the area of St. John Avenue and North Belmont Boulevard and tried to stop it. The driver refused to stop, and the chase reached speeds of 80 mph, according to dispatch recordings.
In the area of 39th Street and Hardy Avenue, just south of U.S. 40 near Interstate 70, the vehicle struck a parked car and wrecked in a yard. The driver tried to flee but was quickly caught by officers, and three other people in the suspect vehicle were soon taken into custody.
One suspect was treated at the scene by EMTs for minor injuries, and animal control was notified after a dog was found in a vehicle and in good condition. Independence police assisted at the scene.
