A free “Business Boot Camp” is set for Friday morning in Blue Springs. Doors open at 8:30 a.m. at the Central Jackson County Fire Protection District training center at 4615 West U.S. 40.

The keynote speech, by Rock & Run Brewery owner Gene DeClue, is at 9.

“He’s going to tell about his business story,” said Lara Vermillion, president of the Blue Springs Chamber of Commerce.

The chamber, the Mid-Continent Public Library System and the city of Blue Springs are sponsoring the event, and there’s a Kauffman Foundation grant to support it.

Six breakout sessions follow the keynote speech. They are:

• “Telling Your Business Story.”

• “Social Media for Small Business.”

• “Top 5 Reasons Businesses Fail.”

• “How to Keep Your Volunteers.”

• “From Employee to Entrepreneur.”

• “How Do I Know When It’s Time to Grown My Business?”

The event runs until noon.

“You can just show up,” Vermillion said. “Come as you want to, and leave as you want to.”
