A chase that began after a hit-and-run Thursday afternoon in Independence ended in North Kansas City with the suspect pickup truck crashing into a bar. Three people were arrested.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, it began shortly after 1 p.m., when a state trooper witnessed an accident at 23rd Street and Noland Road and the offending driver sped away after the trooper tried to stop him.

The chase went through Independence and south into Raytown, and along the way the pickup crashed into another vehicle at 23rd Street and Interstate 435 without stopping. No injuries were reported in that wreck, the patrol said.

The chase ended in the 2000 block of Armour Road (Missouri 210), near I-29/35, when the vehicle crashed into the side of Helen's bar off the westbound lanes of the road. The driver and two passengers jumped out of the truck and tried to run away but were quickly arrested. The driver had outstanding warrants for sex-related crimes, the patrol said.

Independence, Kansas City, Lee's Summit, North Kansas City and Raytown police, along with the county sheriff's deputies, assisted in the chase and arrests.
