Solar power catches on at readers' home

Steve and Peggy Patrick

Buckner

To the editor:

Once you start buying solar panels it's like getting gold fever. You're hooked. My wife and I started buying solar panels several years ago. They now provide about 3/4 of our power needs. Good for the wallet and the environment.

Limit political donations to $35

Corky Lewis

Lee's Summit

To the editor:

I’m concerned about the large amount of some political contributions. I think contributions should be limited to $35. Since our country is supposed to be for the people and by the people, corporations should not be allowed to give anything, money or otherwise.

What would a city be like without police?

Austin Pearce

Independence

To the editor:

My name is Austin Pearce. I’m from Boy Scout Troop 347, and I’m here today to tell you police officers are great people. First they leave their homes, away from their families, not knowing if they will be able to come back. And they do that every day.

They also have to be prepared for anything. They have to train and sometimes leave their families for a while to go train.

Now people who say police are bad people, well, you are wrong. If there were no police, chances are you would not be reading this – because you would be dead. Without police, it would be like “The Purge.” Anyone could go around killing someone with no one to stop them.

Plus it’s hard being a cop. They get so much hate and get gunned down for doing their job. They leave their family every single day, not knowing if they will be able to hug their kid again just so they can get hate. That’s just wrong.

I think police should get more credit for what they do. I hope you see them as better people now.

Many reasons we need trees all around us

Cole Etherton

Independence

To the editor:

My name is Cole Etherton, and I’m a Star Scout in Troop 347 working on the Communication Merit Badge. I have been tasked to write to all of you my opinion on a topic. I’m choosing to write to all of you about why we need more trees. First, on those hot days when you’re at the ballpark and the sun is beating down on it, if only there was a tree to keep you cool. Or when you’re on a park bench reading a good book, but it’s too bright to read. If only there was a tree to make it easier to read. Secondly, there would be less air pollution because the trees would filter some of the pollution out of the air. Now that you have heard my point of view, I hope you agree that we need more trees.
