At least three Independence residents were injured in a boating accident at the Lake of the Ozarks.

In all, seven people were reported hurt, one of them badly enough that he had to be flown to a hospital.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said it happened just after noon Sunday in the Lick Creek Cove.

A 2010 Yamaha Wave Runner driven by Clayton J. Hertel, 17, of Oak Grove, struck a 1995 Regal Marine on the starboard side. Hertel was not reported injured.

The boat was driven by Shad A. Poore, 45, of Independence. He sustained a minor injury and was taken to a hospital.

Zachary E. Brewer, 22, no hometown given, sustained what the Highway Patrol called a serious injury and was flown to University Hospital in Columbia. Jordan G. Poore, 23, no hometown given, had a moderate injury and was taken by ambulance to a hospital.

The other four passengers – two from Independence and two from Kansas City – sustained minor injuries and refused medical treatment at the scene.
