A pair of attempted traffic violation stops led to chases involving Independence police over the weekend.

The first occurred shortly before 8 p.m. Friday at 19th Street and Hawthorne Avenue, when officers tried to pull over a vehicle for speeding and also noted a flat tire. The driver fled the scene, and a short chase ended on the cul-de-sac of Television Place near the intersection of 23rd Street and Interstate 435.

The 14-year-old passenger remained in the vehicle and was taken into custody, while the driver fled on foot because he had two felony warrants for his arrest for armed robbery and aggravated assault. Police searched but were not able to find him.

The second short chase happened shortly after 7 p.m. Sunday and started near Truman Road and Lee's Summit Road. It ended near East Salisbury Road and Dickinson Road, where the female driver and a male passenger were taken into custody, the latter after a short foot chase.
