Members of Corey's Network and Momma On a Mission hosted a vigil Sunday night at Suchman & Darnall Family Dentistry at Crackerneck Road and 39th Street in Independence in memory of Corey Laykovich and to honor homicide victims whose cases have not yet been solved. Laykovich was killed in late July 2013, and his accused killer was arrested in January this year and is scheduled to go on trial next month.

Corey's Network, founded by Laykovich's parents, and Momma on a Mission, founded by Monique Willis, are support groups for families of homicide victims in the Kansas City metro area. Willis' son Alonzo Thomas was a 2014 murder victim whose case is unsolved. [Photos by Mike Genet/The Examiner]
