Independence police shot and injured a male suspect late Monday morning following a chase that ended with an IPD patrol car crashed into a mobile home in unincorporated Blue Summit.

No officers were injured in the incident, police said. Police have not released the identity of the suspect or what led to the chase, but they did say the incident is not connected with the search for the suspect who shot and killed a Clinton, Missouri, police officer Sunday night, about 80 miles away. The incident also was not related to a separate and simultaneous police chase that started in Independence and was called off in eastern Kansas City.

The chase went northbound on Blue Ridge Boulevard, on the western border of Independence, and ended between 18th and 19th streets across from the Kehilath Israel Blue Ridge cemetery. The IPD cruiser crashed into the porch of a mobile home on Blue Ridge Court, and soon after that officers shot the suspect.

His injuries are not known, though a neighborhood resident said she saw emergency personnel performing CPR on a subject. Police have not said whether or not the suspect fired any shots.

Kansas City police and the Jackson County Sheriff's Office have been assisting in the investigation, as the shooting technically occurred in unincorporated area.

No mobile home residents were injured, though people staying in the damaged trailer and some nearby units were evacuated for precautionary reasons because the crash damaged a gas line.
