The Independence City Council re-appointed two members of the Public Utilities Advisory Board during Monday's meeting.
Jack Looney, who has served has chairperson, and Mark McDonald were appointed to four-year terms that expire in July 2021. A third person, Jerry Adkins, had been up for consideration, but the council withdrew his application after it became known that Adkins had not yet met the one-year city residency requirement to be part of a charter commission.
The council unanimously approved Looney and McDonald's re-appointments as part of the consent agenda.
The PUAB had gained notice earlier this summer as city officials decided on a company to take over the Missouri City power plant for demolition and environmental remediation. The board had not recommended the proposed bid that was more than twice the other bid. It requested (and received) some answers from the city council majority that encouraged city staff to work with the former company and hosted a rare public hearing on the matter the council ultimately decided on the higher bid.
Other re-appointments from Monday's meeting included Billie Preston to the Planning Commission.
