KCP&L says it’s sending about 50 employees to Florida, where Hurricane Irma left millions without power over the weekend.

The company, which serves most of the Missouri side of the metro area outside Independence, says most of the employees left Saturday and are ready to stay for up to two weeks.

The company also says it’s released 194 line contractors and 150 tree contractors, many of whom were already helping out in Texas following Hurricane Harvey.

Also, the Missouri Department of Transportation on Monday was sending crews to Florida, including one strike team – two mechanics and six maintenance staff members – from the Kansas City area.
