An Independence School District bus with two students on board hit a vehicle waiting to make a turn Tuesday afternoon, though the accident caused no injuries in either vehicle, police said.

The accident occurred shortly before 4:50 p.m. on 39th Street. A Ford Fusion that had been westbound was about to turn south onto Spring Street when the mid-sized school bus hit it the car from behind. The Fusion's driver was able to steer across 39th onto Spring, while the bus veered left across 39th and into a front yard.

The bus driver was able to steer downhill between a fire hydrant and electric pole cables, underneath tree cover and avoid a fence before the bus stopped at a tree that was left slightly damaged. The bus later was driven off through the neighboring property and towed away.
