Van Horn High School inducted three new members into its Hall of Honor during an afternoon ceremony Sept. 22 in Van Horn's Little Theatre. The three inductees were Hector Barreto (Class of 1979), James Bodenhamer (1964) and Charlie Shields (1977). They were introduced by Jay Fisher of the Van Horn Alumni Association.
Barreto serves as chairperson of The Latino Coalition and has been administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration. He is a Southern California business owner and serves on national boards for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the World War I Museum at Liberty Memorial. Bodenhamer is the first Falcon to attend and graduate from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. He had a long career with Phillips Petroleum Company, remains active in Houston-area community service and serves as a West Point mentor for the Class of 2018. Shields is president and CEO of Truman Medical Centers after serving 20 years in the Missouri General Assembly. He also serves as president of the Missouri Board of Education.
