A police report of a burglary Monday morning became the second homicide investigation in three days in Independence.

That latest homicide happened at a house on the 12500 block of East 43rd Street, just east of Crysler Avenue and north of U.S. 40. According to police, officers were called to the house at 10:34 a.m. and found someone had forced entry into the house. A single victim, identified as 72-year-old William Domann of Independence, was found inside.

Police originally called the case a medical investigation but later ruled it a homicide.

Police have not released how Domann apparently was killed. Investigators are seeking any information from witnesses.

The case is the ninth homicide this year in Independence. The eighth happened Saturday afternoon at a trailer park off 47th Street just south of U.S. 40.
