A Tuesday morning fire severely damaged an Independence house, though no residents were home at the time of the blaze.

Independence firefighters were dispatched at 6:10 a.m. Tuesday to the house fire at 1125 S. Pearl St., just north of 23rd Street. Units from three fire stations responded and quickly had the fire under control, with no injuries reported. Firefighters found a deceased pet near the back door.

The cause and origin of the fire remains under investigation.
