A two-vehicle collision at Missouri 7 north of Truman Road sent both drivers to the hospital and closed M-7 for about two hours Tuesday afternoon.

The accident happened about 3:08 p.m. not far from the west entrance of the Lake City Ammunition Plant. According to Independence Police, a northbound Chevrolet slid across the centerline and struck a southbound Cadillac. The Cadillac rolled onto its side atop the guardrail, while Chevrolet rotated off the roadway into a gravel drive.

The Cadillac driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital by private vehicle, police said, while the Chevrolet driver suffered serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to the hospital.

The accident remains under investigation. Shortly after the accident, officials from the Missouri Department of Transportation had said the accident was fatal, but Independence Police soon corrected that statement.
