The Eastern Jackson County Courthouse in Independence will reopen Friday after the building closed Thursday morning because of a water main break.
The court will resume operations Friday and will be open during its usual hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Valerie Hartman, the public information officer for Jackson County’s 16th Judicial Circuit Court, said the water main break was flooding the electrical room of the building at 308 W. Kansas, causing the courthouse to send employees home at 11 a.m. Thursday.
Officials later determined that the water main break was on the outside of the building. Hartman said that the main has not been repaired yet and crews will continue to work on fixing it.
