Santa and Mrs. Claus and a lot of others are expected to be on hand tonight for Grain Valley’s Holiday Festival.

It starts at 6 p.m. at Armstrong Park on Main Street near City Hall and the Community Center. It’s free and open to the public.

Mayor Mike Todd will light the mayor’s Christmas tree, and then the Clauses will greet visitors. There will be lights along Main Street. Hot chocolate and cookies will be served, and a holiday movie is to be shown on a large screen. Local fifth graders will sing Christmas carols. Jackson County Executive Frank White Jr. is expected to make an appearance.

Grain Valley High School art students have entered sketches of art to be used on the city’s snowplows this winter. The winner is to be announced during tonight’s event.

The Grain Valley Assistance Council has an angel tree, and people are invited to select an ornament with a gift request and adopt a child or family for Christmas.
