The City of Independence Environmental Health Division conducts inspections anywhere food is handled, prepared and served to the public within city limits. Critical violations must be handled within 72 hours.

Buffalo Wild Wings Grill & Bar, 20110 E. Jackson Drive – On Nov. 29, inspectors found ice in the hand sink across from walk in cooler.

Hy-Vee, 1525 E. 23rd St. – On Nov. 29, utensils were in pans of standing water throughout the kitchen. An employee was wiping silverware with a cloth napkin. There was no sanitized water in the sushi area or the salad bar. Chemical spray bottles were hanging on the hand sink in the bar and the ware washing area, and chemicals were stored on prep tables in the salad bar area with clean pans and dressings vinegars.

First Watch, 19321 E. U.S. 40 – On Dec. 4, an employee was observed on the cook line changing gloves without washing her hands.

Los Cabos, 18201 E. Bass Pro Drive – On Dec. 4, the sanitizing buckets for wiping clothes didn't have the correct concentration.

Lucky Buffet, 2931 S. Noland Road – On Dec. 4, cooked shrimp and egg foo young in the reach-in cooler on cook line temped at more than 71 degrees; discarded. Raw eggs were stored above raw meat, and raw meat was found in the bus tub on a case of cabbage. Sanitized water could not be located on the cook line prep line or the sushi/Mongolian grill area. An employee was observed washing a knife in the hand sink in the Mongolian grill area.

Sam's Southern Eatery, 11701 E. U.S. 24 – On Dec. 5, cakes in single service containers were found in restaurant that had been made at home; cakes were removed. There were no sanitizer or test strips in the vicinity of the 3-compartment sink, and inspectors found no sanitizer available for use. A spray bottle of Lysol cleaner was hanging on a shelf above the prep table.

East Buffet, 11825 E. U.S. 40 – On Dec. 6, several pounds of shrimp were being thawed in the prep sink. Multiple pans of various foods found through out kitchen were stored unlabeled and uncovered. Chicken in the walk-in freezer was stored above beef and above a container of noodles in the walk-in cooler. Several pans of various foods found in the reach-in cooler were stacked on top of each other without any lid or label.

Minit Mart, 15800 E. 23rd St. S. – On Dec. 6, inspectors found no sanitizer in the facility.

Golden Rice, 1435 S. Noland Road – On Dec. 7, a coffee cup spoon and rubber gloves were found in and on the hand sink closest to the 3-compartment.

La Casa Mexico, 19321 E. U.S. 40 – On Dec. 7, an unlabeled spray bottle was found in basin of the hand sink in the bar.

Best Western Truman Inn, 4048 S. Lynn Court Drive – On Dec. 11, the west stand-up cooler had a temperature of 50 degrees and there was a large ice build-up in the back of the unit; the manager is going to get new cooler, do not use existing unit until 41 or below.

King Louie Strike N Spare, 13001 E. U.S. 40 – On Dec. 12, the hand sink on the cook line was inaccessible due to a trash can placed in front of it.

Yogurtini, 207 W. Maple Ave. – On Dec. 12, the hand sink behind the order counter was cluttered.

Corner Cafe, 4215 S. Little Blue Pkwy. – On Dec. 12, turkey breast had been placed in the walk-in cooler without being first properly cooled; turkey was removed from cooler and placed in an ice bath to be properly cooled.

McDonald's, 18910 E. U.S. 40 – On Dec. 12, the hand sink next to the fry station was not functioning; repair, failure to do so may result in tickets being issued.

Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, 19510 E. U.S. 40 – On Dec. 12, sanitizer could not be located in the breading area. The faucet knobs for the hand sink in the breading area were heavily soiled; clean constantly.

Hy-Vee, 4545 S. Noland Road – On Dec. 13, the meat cooler was out of temperature, with the meat temperatures ranging from 43-51 degrees; all food products must be kept at 41 degrees and below or 135 degrees and above.

Northern Boulevard United Methodist Church, 1800 S. Northern Blvd. – On Dec. 13, the sink in the back of kitchen had a long black hose hooked up to it, which needs to be shorten or removed to prevent back siphonage.

Burger King, 14001 E. 42nd St. S. – On Dec. 14, the roof access door was broken and had a large gap for pest to enter building; re-inspection required.

Unk's Burgers, 18801 E. 39th St. S. – On Dec. 18, the prep cooler containing sandwich toppings was running at 57 degrees; coolers must be 41 degrees or below. The hand sink by the grill had no hot water.
