Community breakfast Saturday

Independence First Christian Church will hold a community breakfast from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday, in the Fellowship Hall. The cost is $3.50 for either a half order of biscuits and gravy or all-you-can-eat pancakes with sausage, and $5 for a full order of biscuits and gravy. All meals include coffee and juice.

'A Night of Hope' features Osteen message

Hear a message of hope from Joel and Victoria Osteen, the pastors of Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas, the largest church in America, at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 5; doors open at 6 p.m., at the Sprint Center, 1407 Grand Blvd., Kansas City.

This Night of Hope will bring together people of all different backgrounds from across the region for a time of praise and worship where lives are changed and hope is restored. Joel’s simple message that God cares deeply for each of us and empowers us to overcome and succeed resonates with millions, bringing hope and encouragement to a world that desperately needs it.

Glenwood Park Methodist holds health clinic

Glenwood Park Methodist Church will hold a free health clinic from 9 a.m. to noon Jan. 6, 10000 E. 23rd St., Independence. The church holds the clinics on the first Saturday of the month.

The screenings, sponsored by the Black Nurse Association and the Samuel U. Rodgers Health Center, include glucose, cholesterol, blood pressure and body mass index testing.

Seminar focused on church safety

A Church Security and Active Shooter Essentials Seminar will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Jan. 16, at the Independence Police Department, 223 N. Memorial Drive, Independence.

This seminar will equip your staff and key volunteers with information that will help you protect your congregation while maintaining a welcoming environment.
