A police chase beginning in Independence ended in a two-vehicle crash with multiple injuries Sunday evening. The crash occurred on Blue Parkway at Bellaire Avenue in eastern Kansas City, east of the Blue River, when the suspect vehicle hit an uninvolved pickup truck.
The driver and passenger of the suspect vehicle, a gray Ford Escape later found to be stolen out of Kansas City, and three people in the truck all were injured and taken to hospitals.
The chase started about 8:15 p.m. Sunday, police said, when an officer on routine patrol along U.S. 40 in western Independence pulled into the Sports Stadium Inn parking lot. The officer then saw the parked Ford Escape quickly accelerate and hit two pedestrians standing in the parking lot before fleeing the lot. The pedestrians did not suffer serious injuries, police said.
The officer then chased the Escape into Kansas City. While a temperature drop overnight caused some ice-glazed roads Monday morning, police said the roads were not in that condition Sunday evening at the time of the chase.
