Two local students

named to dean’s list

at Southeast Missouri

A pair of local students have been named to the fall 2017 dean's list at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau.

Abigail Becker of Independence and Baylor Massey of Blue Springs were named to the list.

Students named to the list earned at least a 3.75 grade point average on a 4.0 scale, completed at least 12 hours of standard graded credit, achieved no grade below a B and received no failing grades in enrolled courses, including credit/no credit or pass/fail courses.

for dean’s list at

South Dakota State

Three local students have been named to the dean's list for academic excellence after the fall 2017 semester at South Dakota State University in Brookings, S.D.

To earn dean's list distinctions in SDSU's colleges, students must have completed a minimum of 12 credits and must have earned at least a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Students with an asterisk received a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Local students making the list included:

• Taylor Joy Mays, Grain Valley, College of Education & Human Sciences.

• Elias Lauofo Vaoifi, Independence, College of Arts & Sciences.

• Madison Jay Chapman, Lee’s Summit, College of Arts & Sciences.


Blue Springs student

named to dean's list

at Mars Hill University

Cavin Charles Heaton of Blue Springs has been named to Mars Hill University's Honor Roll of the Academic Dean at the end of the fall 2017 semester at the school in Mars Hill, North Carolina.

To qualify for the dean's list, students must earn a grade-point average of 3.5 on a minimum of 12 semester hours, and carry no grade below a C.


Independence student

earns degree from

Dakota State University

Ian Barker of Independence was one of 124 students at Dakota State University in Madison, South Dakota, to earn a bachelor’s degree following the fall 2017 semester.

Barker participated in the fall commencement ceremony on Dec. 9 at the DSU Fieldhouse.

Barker earned a bachelor of science degree in physical education.

named to dean’s list

at Hastings College

Joshua Merithew of Independence has earned dean’s list honors for the fall 2017 semester at Hastings College in Hastings, Nebraska.

For the semester, 397 students from 24 states and three countries were named to the dean’s list, with 246 students achieving a 4.0 grade point average.

To be eligible for the dean’s list, students must achieve a grade point average of 3.7 to 4.0 scale and be registered for full-time coursework.
