Two seniors from Van Horn High School have been honored by the Rotary Club of Independence as students of the month.

• Rachael Van Becelaere has been awarded the Cato Julie Raes Scholarship and received a superior rating at district contest. She also is a KC Scholars recipient. She has been involved in choir, band, the Van Horn musical and theater productions at Van Horn.

Outside of school she is a Hy-Vee employee and active at the Music/Arts Institute and in her church.

She plans to attend college to major in music performance, but has not settled on a college yet.

Her parents are Lora Scassallati and Ted Van Becelaere.

• Raishawn Williams received the McCoy Award for academic excellence and is a National Honor Society member. He has participated in Van Horn football and basketball, as well as broadcasting and media.

Outside of school, he works at Taco Bell and enjoys video games.
