A 4-year-old Grain Valley boy was hospitalized Thursday evening after he was accidentally shot while he and his brother handled a gun, police said.

Officers had responded at about 7:30 p.m. to a reported shooting at a residence in the 900 block of Northwest Dogwood Drive, in a neighborhood in northern Grain Valley, and found the boy with a non-life threatening gunshot wound, according to police. The victim and his 6-year-old brother had been handling or playing with a loaded firearm when the gun went off.

Police continue to investigate the incident.
