An early Monday house fire displaced seven people from an Independence residence.

Fire crews were called to the 16600 block of East Third Terrace, east of Missouri 291, at 1:15 a.m. Monday and had the fire under control at 1:25 a.m., though the house is a total loss. The fire resulted in a couple minor injuries to residents, and the cause is unknown, fire officials say. The Red Cross was called to assist.

• Independence firefighters also battled an apartment fire and house fire Sunday afternoon. The house fire, reported at 2:55 p.m., was at the 1400 block of South Northern Boulevard in the Englewood neighborhood. The first arriving unit saw smoke and fire coming from the attic. The fire was under control shortly after 3 p.m., with no injuries reported. The apartment fire was at the 13000 block of East 35th Street Court, just west of Noland Road, shortly before 4 p.m. Firefighters had the fire under control at 4:08 p.m., with one minor civilian injury reported. The Red Cross was called to assist.
