While Independence Police continue to investigate Tuesday evening's officer-involved shooting outside a Dollar General, one of the two men injured in the shooting had been released from the hospital by Wednesday morning.

The other injured man remained in the hospital in stable condition, police said. Per department policy, three officers directly involved in the shooting are on administrative leave pending investigation.

The shooting happened after officers responded to the area on 23rd Street near Westport Road on a call of a possible armed party. Gunfire happened after police arrived and located the suspect or suspects, and both injured men were armed. No officers were hurt, and police have not yet determined with both men were injured by the officers' gunfire.

An employee of the FavTrip convenience store next door to Dollar General told The Examiner that one of the injured men was a fellow employee who had been told his wife's truck at the Dollar General was being carjacked and rushed over to the scene. His injury was not believed to be serious.

A member of the Jackson County Prosecutor's Office was at the scene Tuesday evening while police investigated.
