The Grain Valley boy who was accidentally shot last week while he and his brother handled a gun has been released from the hospital, police said.

Grain Valley Police continues to investigate the incident, which occurred the evening of Jan. 26. Officers responded about 7:30 p.m. that day to a reported shooting at a residence in the 900 block of Northwest Dogwood Drive, and they found a 4-year-old boy with a non-life threatening gunshot wound.

He and his 6-year-old brother had been handling or playing with a loaded gun when it went off, police said.
