Fat Saturday this weekend at St. Cyril's

St. Cyril's Church is holding Fat Saturday fundraiser at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, at Mike Onka Hall, 11520 E. Putnam, Sugar Creek.

Come celebrate Mardi Gras Sugar Creek Style. The evening includes music by the Sugar Creek Tamburitzans, raffles, silent auction and food.

Eastgate celebrating Lincoln's birthday

Eastgate Christian Church will hold a special worship service in honor of the 209th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s birth at 10:25 a.m. Sunday, 4010 S. River Blvd., Independence. The service will feature a Lincoln sermon, period hymns and music, and scripture readings from the King James Version of the Bible, which Lincoln read and often quoted.

They will also hold a special worship service for Ash Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. The service of penitence, which marks the beginning of the Lenten season, will include a reflection by Rev. Joshua Patty about guilt and repentance, special music, the imposition of ashes, and Holy Communion.

LaDora Cripps presides at Stone Church

The theme this week is “Listen to the Voice of God” at Stone Church Community of Christ, 1012 W. Lexington Ave., Independence. The service begins at 10:20 a.m. Sunday. This service is brought to you by the Missionary team with the message brought by Kent Parker, a seventy in the Community of Christ.

LaDora Cripps will be the presider. Members of our Youth Group will bring the Call to Worship and Prayer for Peace. Other participants will be Nicole Sullivan and Judy Williams.

Organist, Jeff King will lead the congregation in worship and provide ministry of music.

Ash Wednesday service planned at St. Luke's UCC

St. Luke's United Church of Christ will hold an Ash Wednesday service at 7 p.m. Wednesday, 727 N. Main St., Independence.

They will also host a Lenten Study on Tuesday evenings beginning Feb. 20 and continuing through March 27. The Rev. Paul Emily will be leading the study. This year's study will focus on The Psalms, using “The Message” by Eugene Peterson.

The evening will begin with a Meager Meal at 6 p.m., followed by a brief introduction of the topic and then group discussion.

 

Knights serving Lenten dinners

The Knights of Columbus will be sponsoring Lenten fish dinners from 5 to 7 p.m. Fridays through March 23, at the Church of the Santa Fe, 231 S. Sibley St., Buckner.

The menu includes baked or fried Alaskan pollock, potatoes, vegetables, coleslaw, dessert and drink.

St. Ann's Lenten fish dinners

St. Ann’s Church will have their Famous Fish Dinners from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Fridays through March 23, at the church, 10109 E. Lexington Ave., Independence.

The menu includes boiled shrimp, fried shrimp, whole catfish, catfish fillets, baked tortilla crust chipotle tilapia, baked panko breaded tilapia, French fries, boiled potatoes, coleslaw, hush puppies and cornbread. Drinks are included with dinner. Desserts are available and sold separately by the Altar Society.

Fish on menu at St. Robert Bellarmine

St. Robert Bellarmine Church will be serving Lenten fish dinners from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Friday, at the church, 4313 S. Missouri 7, Blue Springs.

The menu includes fried or baked fish and/or shrimp/popcorn shrimp, along with coleslaw, macaroni and cheese, baked potato, corn on the cob, green beans, dessert and drink.

Tickets are $9 for adults; $5 for children; $25 for family (2 adults and 2+ children under 12); children 5 and under are free. “Supersize” is available for an extra $1. Proceeds will go for various church projects.

 

St. Mark's plans annual fish fry

St. Mark's annual fish fry, sponsored by Knights of Columbus Council 6794, will be held from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, at St. Mark's Parish Center, 3736 Lee's Summit Road, Independence.

The menu includes glazed baked salmon or battered white fish or cheese pizza, plus choice of rice pilaf, baked potato or macaroni and cheese. All dinners include coleslaw, green beans, roll and drink. Desserts sold separately.

The cost is $11 for adults; $5 for ages 4 to 10; and children under age 3 eat free.

 

Presentation parish fish fries during Lent

Our Lady of the Presentation Catholic Church will be hosting Lenten fish fries from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Fridays through March 23, in the church's Auditorium, 150 N.W. Murray Road.

The menu includes fried shrimp and tilapia, baked cod, salad bar, baked potato, vegetables plus homemade desserts.

The cost is $12 for adults; $5 for children ages 4-11. Proceeds will support the Presentation Youth Service Mission Trip held each summer at various locations in the United States with the goal of serving others.
