The Independence Chamber of Commerce is hosting an American Red Cross blood drive on Monday.

It’s from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the chamber offices, 210 W. Truman on the north edge of the Square. The chamber’s phone number is 816-252-4745.

Blood supplies have run critically short this winter as the flu has been widespread and bouts of cold weather have kept people at home. All types of blood are needed.

The Red Cross also has upcoming blood drives from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 17 at Cornerstone Community of Christ church, 1316 S. Osage St. in Independence, and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 26 at Centerpoint Medical Center, 19600 E. 39th St. in Independence.

Also, the Community Blood Center facility in Blue Springs is open seven days a week. Donors are asked to make an appointment. Go to savealifenow.org or call 877-468-6844.
