Police reunited a 2-year-old boy with his family in Blue Springs after he briefly got outside his house early Tuesday and wandered around the neighborhood.

According to police, a resident in the 1100 block of Northwest Mock Avenue, near South Outer Road, called Blue Springs Police after noticing the boy wandering outside about 1:15 a.m. Police found the boy unharmed and kept him warm in a squad car while officers checked with neighbors to ask about the boy. During that time, the boy's mother arrived home from work and claimed him.

The boy apparently was supposed to be sleeping in a basement room, with his father also in the house, but had opened a window to get outside, police said. The father was not home when the mother came home, police said.
