The Independence Chamber of Commerce and Metro Community College-Blue River are sponsoring a pair of candidate forum sessions Thursday for the upcoming Independence City Council elections.

The sessions will be at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. at the MCC-Blue River campus, EC Room 110. The campus is at 20301 E. Missouri 78, Independence.

Mayor Eileen Weir is unopposed for re-election, but there will three candidates on the ballot for the two at-large council seats up for election. Incumbent and local attorney Karen DeLuccie, county IT worker Bryce Stewart and former Independence Power & Light electric distribution manager Mike Huff will appear on the ballot, and former auto plant operations manager Matt Medley has declared his candidacy as a write-in candidate.

Medley filed with the Board of Elections after current at-large Council Member Chris Whiting announced a few days before the filing deadline that he would not seek re-election.

The election is April 3.
