An inmate at the Jackson County Detention Center died Thursday in an apparent suicide, Jackson County officials said.

In a release, the county said the inmate, a man, was found unresponsive shortly before 5:30 p.m. Thursday. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene. No other details have been released as of Thursday evening.

“Any time someone takes their own life it is a tragedy,” Acting Director of Corrections Diana Turner said in the release. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the friends and family of the deceased at this very difficult time. As we do in all incidents, we have already begun a thorough investigation of this incident.”
