The metro area today is looking at another day of sleet and freezing rain that’s expected to make driving tough if not treacherous.

Kansas City is in the middle of a wide stretch of the country – Dallas to Duluth, Dodge City to Peoria, a dozen states in all – under winter weather advisories.

In western Missouri and eastern Kansas, the National Weather Service had forecast freezing rain to develop by early morning today, with light icing, making for a rough commute, and lasting until about noon. Today’s high is about 35.

Around noon the freezing rain switches to drizzle until about midnight, then back to rain. Friday looks better, with a high of 46 and sunny skies.

Drizzle and rain could return late Friday, but that’s the last precipitation until early next week. Saturday’s high is 53.
