Kiwanis Annual Chili Day is set for Feb. 27, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., at Stone Church Community of Christ, 1021 W. Lexington, Independence, just off the Square.

“This is our primary fundraiser,” said Debby Laufer, president of the Kiwanis Club of Independence. “The earliest Kiwanis Chili Day was in the 1930s according to a press release from The Examiner. Our recipe hasn’t changed much since then. It’s still great, and all proceeds go to community youth activities and youth organizations.”

For $8, dining-in there will be homemade chili, pie and a drink. There is also take-out and delivery.

This event will also feature “Blair’s Foster Socks, ” an Independence non-profit organization that believes each pair of socks given to a child will give hope and comfort that tomorrow will be brighter day.
