A senior from William Chrisman High School has been honored by the Rotary Club of Independence as students of the month.

Jose Mendoza received the McCoy Award for academic excellence. He has been active in theater, band, choir, Enuf Stop Bullying, ACE, Scholars Bowl, tennis, cross country, track, Stuco, Youth Advisory Council, color guard, and National Honor Society.

Outside of school he works as a carpenter and at Chipotle. He ha been active in his church and with missions.

He plans to attend the University of Missouri - Kanas City Conservatory to major in composition and vocal performance.

His parents are German and Mirna Mendoza.
