An elementary school parent in Blue Springs was arrested Wednesday morning after he used a phone in the school office and later was found to have a gun and drugs on him.

The incident happened at James Walker Elementary. According to the principal's email sent to parents and guardians, the parent had been granted entry into the office and asked to use the phone in order to obtain a ride.

Office staff members “observed the parent acting somewhat erratically and quickly worked to usher the parent out of the building,” according to the email. The school's public safety officer detained the parent nearby, outside of the school, and found the person had alleged narcotics and a firearm.

Blue Springs Police then responded and took the parent into custody.

In closing her email, the principal commended the office staff and public safety officer for their awareness and efforts to ensure the staff and students' safety.
