A Lee's Summit man died late Monday and another was arrested following a two-vehicle crash on southbound Interstate 470.

Carl Martin, 58, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which happened about 11:25 p.m. Monday on I-470/Missouri 291 about a quarter-mile south of the Little Blue River crossing.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Martin was driving a 2002 Chevrolet when his vehicle was hit from behind by another southbound vehicle, a 2010 Toyota. The impact sent both vehicles into the median, where Martin's vehicle overturned and he was ejected. His Chevrolet then came to rest and caught fire in the median.

The driver of the Toyota, 41-year-old Dung Phan, was taken to the hospital for minor injuries and then arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Neither driver was wearing a seat belt, according to the Highway Patrol.

According to court records, Phan pleaded guilty last year and paid a fine for failure to stay in a single lane on a three-lane roadway.
