The annual St. Patrick's Day Parade, a benefit for the Child Abuse Prevention Association, will begin at 3 p.m. March 17, around the Independence Square. Festivities begin at 1:30 p.m. and include music, dancing and lots of fun. The parade includes floats, music, walkers, vehicles, churches, scouts, commercial entries and much more.

The Jackson County Shrine Club is hosting this event and has chosen Independence Police Officer Tom Wagstaff as the grand marshal.

If you'd like to participate, the entry deadline and payment is March 12. The entry cost is as follows: Commercial $100; group $20; individual $5; and sponsorship is $250.

The parade will assemble at noon at the Shrine Club parking lot at 120 1/2 Pleasant St., with demonstrations and performances in the parking lot starting at 1 p.m. by arrangement.
