Two seniors from Van Horn High School have been honored by the Rotary Club of Independence as students of the month.

Dasiah Tatum has been active in volleyball, basketball, soccer, track and field at Van Horn. She also is involved in Girl Scouts and summer youth camps for volleyball.

She plans to go to a community college, then transfer to Colorado to major in business management/marketing. She also plans to participate in shot put and discus in college.

She is the daughter of Sabrina Louthain.

• Ian A. Suarez Chavez was named homecoming prince his junior year. He is treasurer of the Student Council and is involved in the Multicultural Club, TSA Club, Mecha Challenge, RooBuilders bridge competition, and the Chick-Fil-A leader academy. He also was a football defensive end.

He is active as a musician at his church, Night to Shine, and volunteered at the Maywood retirement home, as well as the JCP/YMCA Christmas project.

He plans to major in civil engineering at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

His parents are Alberto Suarez Torrez and Veronica Chavez.
