benefit event set

Mount Washington United Methodist Church will be holding a benefit for the Fairmount Food Pantry from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, at the church, 584 S. Arlington Ave., Independence.

There will be a bake table and raffles throughout the day. Some of the vendors include Tupperware, Mary Kay, Scentsy, Advocare, It Works, Damsel in Defense, Tastefully Simple, Premier Designs, Chalk Couture, Third-one and more. Proceeds from the event will help furnish food for the Fairmount and Sugar Creek area.

Admission is a donation of a non-perishable food item.

 

Pancakes, bake

sale aids REAP

Blue Ridge Presbyterian Church is holding a pancake breakfast and bake sale from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, at the church, 6429 Blue Ridge Blvd., Raytown.

Proceeds from this event will go to the Raytown Emergency Assistance Program. The cost is $6 for adults, and $3 for ages 10 years and under.

 

St. Luke's UCC

ready for Easter

St. Luke's United Church of Christ will be participating in the Citywide Palm Sunday Service at 9:30 a.m. this Sunday.

There will be a 7 p.m. Good Friday service in the sanctuary on Friday. On Easter Sunday, they will have the following services/activities: Son Rise Service at 9 a.m.; Easter breakfast served by the Youth Group at 9:30 a.m.; an Easter Egg Hunt for the children at 10:15 a.m.; and Easter worship at 10:45 a.m.

Easter egg hunt

Messiah Lutheran Church will host an Easter Egg Hunt from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, at the church gym, 613 S. Main St., Independence.

In addition to the Easter Egg Hunt, there will be games and craft projects. The hunts will be held for different age groups.

Holy Week events

Northern Boulevard United Methodist Church in Independence has planned several activities during Holy Week.

In addition to Palm Sunday is this Sunday, on Holy Thursday, they will have a Come & Go Communion from 5:30 to 7:30. A Prayer Walk will be held from 9 a.m. to noon and 5 to 7 p.m. on Good Friday at the church. Easter Sunday, the children will have an Easter Egg Hunt at 10 a.m., followed by worship at 10:30 a.m.

Holy Week events

Eastgate Christian Church will hold several special Holy Week services. The services are:

• Palm Sunday at 10:25 a.m.: “Seeing and Not Seeing God: Jesus Enters Jerusalem” Sunday worship with special music and Holy Communion.

• Maundy Thursday at 7 p.m.: “Moments with Jesus, Glimpses of God” worship service with scripture readings, special music and Holy Communion.

• Good Friday at 7 p.m.: “The Irony of the Cross: Separation from and Connection with God” Meditative service using visual images, prayers, meditations, and special music.

• Holy Saturday at 7:45 p.m.: Great Vigil of Easter, celebrating the Light of Christ, stories of God’s dramatic acts of power and salvation, the sacraments of baptism and Holy Communion.

• Easter Sunday at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m.: Both services include special music and Holy Communion. The Rev. Joshua Patty, Senior Minister, will offer a special Easter sermon, “Surprised by God: Mary Sees Jesus.”

'The Message' used

in Lenten study

Tuesday is the last day for the St. Luke's United Church of Christ Lenten Study. The evening will begin with a Meager Meal at 6 p.m., followed by a brief introduction of the topic and then group discussion. The Rev. Paul Emily will be leading the study, which focuses on the Psalms, using “The Message” by Eugene Peterson.

Independence First Christian Church will hold Good Friday services at 7 p.m., at the church, 125 S. Pleasant St., Independence.

There will be no community breakfast on March 31 due to a community breakfast being prepared by Scout Troop 229 and served from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Easter Sunday.

Country Meadows

'Walk with Jesus'

Country Meadows Baptist Church is holding “Walk with Jesus,” an Easter event that guides your family through Jesus’ last days on earth. The guided experience will take about 70 minutes and will be held at 6 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. March 31.

They will travel to Jerusalem for Palm Sunday; sit down for the Last Supper; experience the Garden of Gethsemane; discover the sacrifice of Good Friday; and celebrate freedom from their sins at the empty tomb that first Easter morning.

The church will also hold an outdoor sunrise celebration service (weather permitting) at 7 a.m. Easter Sunday, followed by a free breakfast. Then at the 10:15 a.m. service, celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ with passion-filled music and a message of hope. An Easter egg hunt for the kids will immediately follow the service.

Bring a basket or bag to collect eggs and enjoy a fun day with your neighbors. There will be a short service followed by cookies and Kool-aid.
