The Kansas City Zoo is welcoming families involved with autism spectrum disorder to enjoy a day at the Zoo on April 8. Persons with autism will receive free admission and those accompanying them will receive a reduced admission of $7.
There will be special activities in the Zoo Learning Center and Lobby from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Experience an animal encounter when the staff introduces visitors and their families to some of their smaller animal ambassadors, then make your own fish sensory bottle.
Sensory-friendly animal encounters and shows, as well as hands-on tactile experiences will be offered for all guests. Visit the lobby for a special sensory-sensitive presentation of the Amazing Animal Ambassadors show at 10:30 a.m. and Wings of Wonder bird show at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. in the auditorium. Check out the We Rock The Spectrum Kids Gym mobile bus.
If a quiet place to take a break is needed, there will be a quiet area set up in the Zoo Learning Center.
