Independence Mayor Eileen Weir, in collaboration with Queen City Baseball, invites Independence youth ages 7 to 14 to join her at 2 p.m. April 15 for a Pitch, Hit and Run event, at the Independence Athletic Complex Baseball Fields, 17800 E. Salisbury Road.

This program, part of the “Play Ball Summer” initiative which was created by the United States Conference of Mayors, was formed to encourage kids to pursue an active and healthy lifestyle while enjoying the fun of baseball and utilize the Scotts Pitch Hit & Run program. Mayors across the country are sponsoring similar events in their communities.

Student athletes will compete in four age and gender groups. All participants will receive a certificate, an Adventure Oasis youth pass and will be entered to win four Royals tickets with a parking pass. The first 50 will receive Play Ball T-shirts.
