Two seniors from Truman High School have been honored by the Rotary Club of Independence as students of the month.

• Katherine Black is in the National Honor Society, is all-conference and all-area in soccer, is a three-time winner of the Academic Award and is chapter president of Educators Rising.

She has been on the Student Council, has played basketball and has been in the Spanish Club and the Spanish National Honor Society.

She plans to attend Benedictine College to major in elementary education and play soccer.

She is the daughter of Scott and Laura Black.

• Nicholas Wheeler received the McCoy Award for academic excellence, has earned three academic letters and has been second-team all-conference and second-team all-area in baseball.

He’s in the National Honor Society, the Spanish National Honor Society and the Spanish Club.

He plans to attend the University of Central Missouri to study athletic training and play baseball.

He is the son of Tamara and Tom Wheeler.
