For the third year in a row, the Blue Springs School District is represented among the eight Missouri Gold Star Schools.

William Bryant Elementary School was announced Wednesday as one of the Gold Star winners by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

Voy Spears Jr. Elementary School in 2017 and Lucy Franklin and William Yates elementary schools the year before were honored as Gold Star Schools and later became National Blue Ribbon Schools.

The Gold Star program recognizes schools that perform at high academic levels or that perform at high levels while serving a significant portion of disadvantaged students. DESE uses the same nomination criteria for the Gold Star program as the Blue Ribbon program from the U.S. Department of Education. Gold Star recipients are nominated for Blue Ribbon recognition, and the Department of Education will announce those winners in the fall.

One other school in the Kansas City metro area, Nashua Elementary in the North Kansas City District, was named a Gold Star School.

Blue Springs schools now have received 14 Gold Stars since Missouri established the program in 1991.
