The Grain Valley boys tennis team won their third straight Missouri River Valley Conference West Tournament championship as the Eagles swept all nine brackets Friday.
All singles players and doubles teams went 3-0 for Grain Valley. Lindell Frye and Addison Arnold won No. 1 doubles, Hunter Quintrell and Joel Florida won No. 2 doubles and Dean Mobley and Hunter Hoagland won No. 3 doubles.
Frye won No. 1 singles, Arnold at No. 2, Quintrell at No. 3, Mobley at No. 4, Trent Tarrants at No. 5 and Florida at No. 6.
“It was a great day for our guys,” Grain Valley coach Randy Draper said. “I am proud of this group. They worked at it. Frye lost in the finals before against Excelsior Springs. Lindell works so hard and it was a big win for him. There difference for Quintrell from the beginning of the year to now is ridiculous.”
BLUE SPRINGS SOUTH 6, STALEY 3: The Blue Springs boys tennis team finished their season on a high note following a 6-3 victory over Staley in a non-conference matchup Thursday.
The Jaguars only got one doubles win from Sammy Klosener and Justin Cooper as they won 9-8 (7-5 tiebreaker). In singles play, No. 2 player Wyatt Walker won 8-4, No. 3 Patterson Fallis won 8-4, No. 4 Spencer Jorgensen won 8-1, Sammy Klosener won 8-1 and Cooper won 8-3.
“Varsity struggled a little bit in doubles going 1-2,” South coach Nathan Mooney said. “All three matches were really close. Two matches went to tiebreakers and the other was an 8-6 loss. In singles, it was a lot cleaner with Wyatt, Patterson, Spencer, Sammy and Justin getting wins.”
