You'll soon receive a card and bag delivered to your mailbox for the nation’s largest one-day food drive on May 12.
This marks America’s largest-single day of giving – the National Association of Letter Carriers 26th annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive in partnership with the U.S. Postal Service, Feeding America and other local partners. In the Kansas City region, local partners include Price Chopper, Harvesters and Hot 103 Jamz. Price Chopper is providing all the bags delivered to homes for the food drive.
You're asked leave a nonperishable food donation in a bag by the mailbox and the postal carrier will do the rest. Individuals also can drop food off at a local Post Office or in the Harvesters’ barrels at any area Price Chopper.
Food banks and pantries often receive the majority of their donations during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday seasons. By springtime, many pantries are depleted, entering the summer low on supplies at a time when many school breakfast and lunch programs are not available to children in need.
