A Blue Springs man has been charged in the Wednesday night motel shooting that left 37-year-old Joshua McDaniel dead.

Marvin M. Belk, 44, was in custody this morning on charges of second-degree murder and armed criminal action. Police say Belk confronted the victim, whom he said threatened his son, at McDaniel’s motel room at Welcome Inn, 3300 NW Jefferson St. After McDaniel acknowledged Belk had brought a gun, Belk pulled out the gun and shot him.

After hugging his wife, Belk surrendered to police and told them he realized he had made a mistake.

McDaniel's death marks the second homicide this year in Blue Springs.
