Truman Legacy Series: Noted presidential author to speak

Tickets remain for Thursday's Truman Legacy Series installment at Unity Temple on the Plaza, which features a current New York Times best-selling author.

The program, sponsored by Truman Library Institute, begins at 7 p.m. Thursday. David Von Drehle, columnist for the Washington Post, will join Jon Meacham, Pulitzer-winning presidential historian, for a conversation about Meacham's latest book, “The Soul of America: The Battle for our Better Angels,” which debuted this week at No. 1 on The New York Times best-seller list.

The book explores how the United States has overcome division and turmoil numerous times throughout its history and rallied together behind its uniting traits. Meacham won a Pulitzer Prize in 2009 for “American Lion: Andrew Jackson in the White House.”

Admission $30 is for two people and includes an autographed copy Meacham's book. Truman Library Institute members receive 20 percent off this admission and were emailed a promotion code to unlock those savings.

Tickets can be purchased at rainydaybooks.com. Unity Temple is at 707 W. 47th St., Kansas City.
