Students from Truman High School, left, help clean up Santa Fe Park. Also, adult volunteers work at the area of Truman Road and Missouri 291, and Fort Osage High School students work at Mill Creek Park.
About 75 adult volunteers and more than 200 high school students fanned out across Independence Monday for the second annual citywide cleanup. Adult volunteers worked from 9 to 11 a.m. along U.S. 24, U.S. 40 and at Missouri 291 and Truman Road. Students from Fort Osage, Truman, Van Horn and William Chrisman high schools worked at Dickinson, Santa Fe, Mill Creek and Rotary parks and in the Englewood neighborhood.
Organizers did not have a final tally of trash bags filled as of Monday evening.
