William Federer speaks at Waldo Avenue
William J. Federer, host of the daily radio program "American Minute," will be speaking at 6 p.m. Sunday, at Waldo Avenue Restoration Branch, 819 W. Waldo Ave., Independence.
He is a Christian author, historian, and president of Amerisearch, Inc., a publishing company dedicated to researching America’s Christian heritage. Some of his books include America’s God and Country and Who is the King in America? He will be speaking about God’s hand of providence in American history and the connection between Biblical principles and the founding of the United States government.
Also, the church is holding a spring giveaway from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. Household items such as clothing, appliances, furniture, books, etc., will be available for free.
Glenwood Park Methodist holds health clinic
Glenwood Park Methodist Church will hold a free health clinic from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, 10000 E. 23rd St., Independence. The church holds the clinics on the first Saturday of the month.
The screenings, sponsored by the Black Nurse Association and the Samuel U. Rodgers Health Center, include glucose, cholesterol, blood pressure and body mass index testing.

St. Luke's UCC sets 140th anniversary
St. Luke's United Church of Christ will celebrate its 140th anniversary on Sunday, 727 N. Main St., Independence. There will be special music and celebrations during worship at 10:45 a.m.
After worship, there will be a potluck dinner, followed by a Celebration of Goals. As a Mission Outreach, St. Luke's will be collecting new underwear and socks for the elementary schools in Independence.
'Where Art and Spirituality Meet'
“Where Art and Spirituality Meet” will be presented by William Jewell Professors Ron Witzke and Ian Coleman, at 9:15 a.m. Sundays, through Aug. 26, at Westminster Hall, 417 W. Lexington Ave., Independence.
A come as you are worship service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on those Sundays, at the First Presbyterian Church, 100 N. Pleasant St., Independence.

Garage sale at St. Mark's
St. Mark’s Catholic Church will hold a garage sale from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday, with a “bag sale” from 8 a.m. to noon June 9, at the church, 3736 S. Lee’s Summit Road, Independence.
All proceeds will be used for mission trips and retreats for the church's youth.
St. Mark's UMC trunk sale
St. Mark's United Methodist Church is planning a one day trunk sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 16, in the parking lot of the church, 603 N. Jennings Road, Independence.
If you have items you'd like to sell, and don't want the hassle of your own garage sale, you're invited to reserve a spot. The cost is $15 for one space, and $25 for two. A 10X10 space is available on the lawn for $25. You'll sell out of your own trunk and keep all of the proceeds.

Nativity of Mary sale
Nativity of Mary Catholic Church's annual rummage sale will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 19 through 22, in the basement of Nativity School, 10021 E. 36th Terrace, Independence (entrance on U.S. 40.)
There will be collectibles, housewares, furniture, clothes, shoes, books, toys, puzzles, electronics and much more. June 22 is $5 Bag Day.
