Summer is here and it is hot! What do you do to keep cool in the summer? Do you go to the pool or plant yourself in front of your AC unit? How about sitting in the shade with a cool drink and a book? Reading is a great escape from the hot days.

If you like to read, you are in luck! Animals Best Friends is having their annual ABF Book Sale this coming Saturday, June 9, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the ABF facility, 2302 S. Crysler Ave., Independence.

Recycling books you no longer read is a great thing to do. Any books you no longer want can be donated to the sale on Thursday, June 7, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the ABF facility.

Whether you are looking to donate books or buy books, the ABF Book Sale can help you out. Donations are tax deductible and books for purchase are reasonably priced. All proceeds go to support the ABF animals.

I want to remind everyone to bring their animals inside during the hot weather. A dog or cat can overheat and die from heatstroke in a short time.

ABF is looking for volunteers for various jobs at their rescue facility, who are dependable, hard-working individuals and have a love for animals. If interested, go to www.animalsbestfriends.org or call 816-254-8664.
